Howdy and welcome to my blog! This is my first ever post, YAY!

Howdy! So this is my first ever post on my new website so I thought I should start by introducing myself. My name is Emily. I'm a crafter an bookbinder who absolutely loves learning new things, even if I'm not great at them.

I've done everything from decorating cakes, hand made cards, making my own jewelry (and selling it), to even making my own baidarka (it's a kind of kayak). As of the last few years I've delved and done a great deal of research into bookbinding and have found my calling.

Two worlds

I'm not just a bookbinder/crafter and teeny business owner. I also still have a day job. Like a lot of small business owners starting out, quitting and going full time into my dream hobby isn't an option yet. So here I am, trying to do both at the same time.

Anyone else out there like that? Exhausting isn't it! But worth it I think.

I get up super early and work on books getting all of them moved to the next steps and then an alarm goes off and I switch brain modes to day job. Grab coffee and head to my desk where I work full time. And when that's over for the day I grab a bite and back to my workbench. I also check messages at lunch and on breaks throughout the day but I'm so small right now that's not an issue.

Growing

I started out just doing in person craft fairs and bazaars. Mostly during the holiday season and a few during the spring/summer. This is a great way to start out small when you're a hand crafting business because during the non-event season you can invent new things and build up your inventory.

Also small holiday markets can be very cheap to start at. So this worked great for me. But it's not much of a profit that way. So here I am, with my new shiny website! And I have opened up on goimagine.com a handmade seller site that is basically what Etsy was supposed to be.

So here in this blog I want to share what I've learned, tips and tricks as well as any links to resources that may help you start out on your crafter to business journey. What worked for me, what didn't work and why, and how it's going.

This blog is dedicated to crafters of all kinds, those that want to start small businesses as well as those who just want to know how it all works.

Stay tuned and I promise not to disappoint!
